Based on the qualitative and quantitative results, samples may be divided into three main groups: 1.—lacustrine sediments including the oldest levels (more than 9070 to 11,600 yrs BP) and the youngest one (c. 315 yrs BP); 2.—subaerial sediments with archaeological evidence of human settlement in which diatoms were absent (9070 to 8570 yrs BP) and 3.—lacustrine sediments younger than 8570 yrs BP. Some taxonomic criteria are discussed and the relationship between the results obtained and the possible environmental changes. Como parte de un proyecto interdisciplinario de estudios paleoclimáticos y geocronológicos en Argentina, se estudiaron las asociaciones de diatomeas presentes en 41 muestras de sedimentos procedentes de Salinas del Bebedero, provincia de San Luis, Argentina (33° 20' S; 66° 45' W) y que abarcan los úitimos 11600 años. Se identificaron 115 tax ones infragenéricos de los cuales 14 son nuevos registros para Argentina y todos son nuevos para la provincia. Según los resultados cuali- y cuantitativos las muestras fueron divididas en 3 grupos: 1.—sedimentos lacustres que incluyen los más antiguos (más de 9070 y hasta 11600 años AP) y el más joven (aprox. 315 años AP); 2.—sedimentos subaéreos con evidencias de asentamientos humanos entre 9070 y 8570 años AP y 3.—sedimentos lacustres de menos de 8570 años.
