520 | 3 | |a Deterministic and stochastic mathematical models were formulated in order to get a better understanting of the development and mechanisms associated with the dispersion of the disease. The significance of the classification in three stages of infected individuals (acute stage, indeterminate chronic stage, and chronic stage with apparent symptoms), is stressed. Besides the human population, the deterministic model in the rural scenario involved both, the insect and the dog populations (which are the basic domestic reservoirs of T. cruzi when the insect is present). Three transmission mechanisms were considered: vectorial, congenital and through blood transfussions. Given the expansion of the disease from rural endemic zones toward the Latinoamerican cities caused by migratory streams, thus generating a public health issue in Canada, USA, European countries, Australia and Japan, the model of the so called “urban Chagas” is analyzed as well, in which only human beings are considered as the T. cruzi carriers. Expressions were obtained (and interpreted) from the next generation matrix and the basic reproductive numbers are calculated from it. Two estimations were obtained corresponding to two different scenarios: (i) endemic zone (Argentine Chaco) and, (ii) city of Buenos Aires. The systems of differential equations corresponding to (i) a farm household in the endemic area and, (ii) Buenos Aires city, are numerically solved. Analytical expressions for the number of individuals in the initial phase of the disease dispersion are obtained. A stochastic urban model of differential equations was constructed and numerically solved for the expected number on individuals in each of the four stages considered for the disease. |l eng
|l spa
