Pinning, mobility and memory effects in YBCO crystals

In the past years, vortex lattice (VL) has become a model for the experimental study of complex systems. Recently, memory effects in the ac response in high T c superconductors have been observed. These effects were related to different robust dynamical states characterized by their degree of mobili...

Recently, memory effects in the ac response in high T c superconductors have been observed. These effects were related to different robust dynamical states characterized by their degree of mobility. In this work we sense the solid VL in YBCO single crystals with different dynamical histories using a very small ac field to measure ac susceptibility, so vortices oscillate inside their effective pinning potential wells without modifying the configuration of the system. Results suggest that dynamical history not only determines the degree of mobility, but directly modifies the effective pining potential wells. © 2004 Published by Elsevier B.V.
