Sumario: | Micropaleontological associations, both ostracods and foraminifera, recovered from the Destacamento Rio Salado Formation (Late Quaternary, Argentina) were studied. The assemblages are indicating a marginal marine, semi-enclosed environment such as an estuary or a lagoon in connection with the open sea. The foraminiferal association is dominated by eurihaline species, enable to support wide salinity ranges. Phytal and infaunal taxa dominate the ostracod assemblages. Allochtonous fauna, especially ostracods, transported from high-energy littoral environments as well as from neighbouring continental sources, are well represented. |
