Exactly solvable protonneutron pairing hamiltonians and quartet correlations

Sumario:Exactly solvable models have played an important role in helping to elucidate the physics of strongly correlated systems. Recently, we have extended the Richardson-Gaudin (RG) models of SU(2) like particle pairing to higher rank algebras. In particular, we will discuss here the SO(8) RG model of proton-neutron pairing as a model of strong quartet correlations. The failure of proton-neutron BCS suggests that new approaches have to be developed to account for them. © 2008 World Scientific Publishing Company.
