Sumario:Mallomonas parana sp. nov. (Synurophyceae, Synurales) was found in a river flood-plain lake of the Paraná River system, Santa Fe Province, Argentina. Transmission and scanning electron microscopic observations were made. The new taxon is referred to the series Allorgei of the section Quadratae, and biogeographical aspects of this series are dicusssed.
