Ovule ontogenesis in Ceiba insignis (Kunth) Gibbs & Semir (ex. Chorisia speciosa St. Hil.) (Bombacaceae)
Ontogeny of the ovule in Ceiba insignis was examined. There is no previous account about ovular initiation in the family Bombacaceae while Ceiba is embryologically unknown. The mature ovule is anatropous, crassinucellate and bitegmic; integuments form a zig-zag micropyle. The ovule primordium is tri...

Sumario: | Ontogeny of the ovule in Ceiba insignis was examined. There is no previous account about ovular initiation in the family Bombacaceae while Ceiba is embryologically unknown. The mature ovule is anatropous, crassinucellate and bitegmic; integuments form a zig-zag micropyle. The ovule primordium is trizonate. The outer and inner integuments are of dermal origin. The cells of the nucellar epidermis undergo periclinal divisions and form a nucellar cap. |
