Sumario:Prototheca zopfii (Trebouxiophyceae, Chlorophyta) is a coccoid, colorless algae that we isolated from Reconquista River (Argentina, Prov. de Buenos Aires, Pdo. Tigre) during september 2000. Morphological and physiological (carbon sources assimilation) studies were carried out for its correct identification. The ability of P. zopfii for "gas oil" utilization was evaluated by its growth in culture media containing "gas oil" up to 10% (v/v) as unique carbon and energy source.
