The resistant 'biopolymer' in cell walls of Coelastrum sphaericum

The resistant 'polymer' in the trilaminar sheath of Coelastrum sphaericum is a complex formed by three different types of biopolymers, a hydrophobic aliphatic network mainly composed of polymethylenic chains with amido groups, together with smaller amounts of cellulose and proteins. The co...

Sumario:The resistant 'polymer' in the trilaminar sheath of Coelastrum sphaericum is a complex formed by three different types of biopolymers, a hydrophobic aliphatic network mainly composed of polymethylenic chains with amido groups, together with smaller amounts of cellulose and proteins. The composition of the hydrophobic polymer is close to that of algaenan of other trilaminar layer-containing species.
