Sumario:This paper is a critical reading of “Los suelos de Corrientes y del Uruguay a la luz de trabajos recientes” published in 1934 by Dr. Pablo Groeber. He analyzed the paper “Mapa geo-agrológico y minero de la provincia de Corrientes” of Bonarelli and Longobardi (1929) and emphasized the importance of the parental material in the soil genesis. Briefly he discussed the stratigraphy of the Province of Corrientes and the use of the term “laterite”. Pablo Groeber also discussed the genesis of calcareous and siliceous crusts, indicating a completely inorganic origin and mentioned the important characteristic carbonate levels of central-western Argentina. In this paper a brief stratigraphic update is done and the results of recent studies and modern interpretations of pedogenic processes are incorporated. More than 80 years ago Pablo Groeber suggested the possible relationships between certain forming processes and some soils of Argentina and he highlighted the importance of carbonate crusts. © 2017, Asociacion Geologica Argentina.
