Sumario:Mainly based on the foundational contributions of Jose Luis Coraggio and to a lesser extent of other Latin American authors, we offer a synthesis of some significant ideas of what can be considered as "classic" perspective of the popular economy in Latin America. Some questions that helped us to order this work were the following: What are the main ideas that define to the popular economy as theoretical perspective on the Latin American reality? Who are part of the popular economy, what are their resources and their predominant rationality? Why work with this notion and not with the "informal sector" one? What is the relationship between the popular economy and alternative economy proposals?
