Sumario:When dibenzylketone is heated with sodium or potasium hipoiodite a red color is obtained. This new reaction, apparently specific for the dibenzylketone, is the basis for the spectrophotometric method described. The most convenient range of concentration is 0.1-0.3 mg/ml although the limit of identifícation is about 4 µg/ml, The readings are taken at 525 mµ Several factors affecting the development of the color are studied. The teehnique has also been adjusted to permit the determination in the presence of twenty fold excess of other ketones. The substance responsible for the color has been isolated but not identified.
