Sumario:This article describes the Argentine higher education system taking into account the following dimensions of the analysis: (1) a brief history of its emergence and institutional expansion, (2) the enrollment expansion, (3) the present structure in terms of types of institutions and programs, (4) the governance and quality assurance policies, (5) the academic profession, and (6) the finance. The article concludes highlighting some of the most important trends in Argentine higher education up to 2015.
