Sumario:The article examines twenty years of relations between Mendoza (Argentina) and subnational entities in China (2004–2023), emphasizing the role of subnational foreign policy in both Mendoza and Chinese provinces in fostering economic and cultural ties. The findings indicate that while this relationship has strengthened Mendoza’s wine exports and expanded market opportunities for all parties involved, it still faces challenges. These include the difficulty of overcoming logistical and phytosanitary barriers to accessing the Chinese market, as well as Mendoza’s limited production capacity to meet Chinese demand for its products. Despite these obstacles, strengthening this relationship remains a key priority for Mendoza in its efforts to enhance provincial economic development. The study is structured around three main axes: twinning agreements, sociocultural exchanges; trade and investment flows; and opportunities and challenges. Methodologically, this research adopts a case study approach, combining the analysis of primary and secondary sources, including interviews with key actors and official statistics, to characterize the economic dynamics between the provinces.
