This work does not attempt to answer these questions; instead, it hopes to clarify some epistemological and methodological assumptions that must be addressed in order to outline some kind of response to the questions that guide this work.This article aims to reveal the implications of the assumptions surrounding these questions, from a pragmatic perspective on science and research. In this sense, it is considered that some reflections by Richard Rorty, Thomas Kuhn, and Roberto Follari can contribute to understanding the different ways of conducting educational research or the type of decision involved in considering such research as pedagogical or scientific. El artículo esboza algunas reflexiones en torno a dos cuestiones: a) ¿qué es la investigación educativa? y b) ¿qué distingue a la pedagogía de las ciencias de la educación? En este trabajo, no se pretende ofrecer respuesta a los interrogantes en cuestión; en cambio, se espera esclarecer algunos supuestos de orden epistemológico y metodológico a los que es necesario atender para plantear algún tipo de sugerencia en relación a las preguntas que orientan la reflexión.El artículo pretende revelar el aspecto que adquieren los supuestos que encierran las inquietudes planteadas, desde una perspectiva pragmatista de la ciencia y la investigación. En este sentido, se considera que algunas reflexiones de Richard Rorty, Thomas Kuhn y Roberto Follari pueden constituir una contribución para comprender los diferentes modos de hacer investigación educativa o el tipo de decisión que comporta considerar a esas investigaciones como pedagógicas o científicas.  Universidad Católica de Córdoba.
