| Sumario: | In the late 1980s, John Dewey’s aesthetics came out of the limbo it had been locked in by analytical philosophy. In fact, apart from very few favorable comments made sporadically, Dewey’s aesthetics, when not completely forgotten, suffered decades of ostracism. A detailed tracing of the profound reasons which had blasted Dewey into oblivion for so long goes far beyond the scope of a review. Anyhow, in the late 1980s the critical situation has been very well depicted by Thomas M. Alexander: “I have seen tenured philosophy professors struggle to associate… [Dewey’s] name with a library cataloguing system or with the opponent defeated by Truman.” |
