| Sumario: | During the last decades, the language shift on the American minority languages in favor of Spanish has been one of the most metioned topics. Of all its attributes, we focus on an effective and systematic educational policy: the school language prohibition. We asked what internally motivates a sector with resources to impose a language.
Based on anthropological contributions on the gift, we analyze how the teachers' ideology worked as prohibitive linguistic agents. We take as a case the school prohibition on the speakers of "la quichua" (variety of Santiago del Estero, Argentina). We consider that the characterization of these transmissions as linguistic gifts can contribute to the studies of critical sociolinguistics and linguistic socialization. This theoretical model would contribute to the analysis of the school experience of speakers of many minority languages during the 20th century. |
