This article makes a diagnosis about how the city is taught in school from the perspective proposed by Professor Horacio Capel of polis, civitas and urbs. The paper is the product of a doctoral thesis on the traditions of urban teaching of school geography in Colombia and Spain, with a view that goes beyond urbanism and incorporates politics and citizenship into the teaching of the city. To this end, a scalar system is proposed where we review what theorists and academics think about the teaching of the city, what the national guidelines propose, the way in which textbooks adapt them, the way innovative educators teach, to finally arrive at what students learn. To identify how learning processes are developed and how the different levels of analysis are articulated. El presente artículo hace un diagnóstico sobre cómo se enseña la ciudad en la escuela desde la perspectiva que propone el profesor Horacio Capel de polis, civitas y urbs. El escrito es producto de la tesis doctoral sobre las tradiciones de la enseñanza urbanas de la geografía escolar en Colombia y España con una mirada que supera el urbanismo e incorpora la política y la ciudadanía en la enseñanza de la ciudad. Para ello, se propone un sistema escalar donde se revisa qué piensan los teóricos y académicos sobre la enseñanza de la ciudad, lo que plantean los lineamientos nacionales, la forma en que los adaptan los libros de texto y, la forma como enseñan los educadores innovadores, para finalmente llegar hasta lo que aprenden los estudiantes. Para identificar cómo se desarrollan los procesos de aprendizaje y cómo se articulan los diferentes niveles de análisis.
