Sumario:After the last military dictatorships that occurred in Chile (1973-1990) and Argentina (1976-1983), we find social processes that mobilize meanings about the political violence of the recent past and promote memory policies carried out by the State and by the civil society. It is observed that the social demand for institutional recognition of these spaces as sites of memory continues to be central to the political agenda; however, their institutionalization does not guarantee constant promotion and protection by the Chilean and Argentine State. So it is through the agency of civil society that the dynamics are activated in the present due to the meanings around human rights and judicial reparations from these territories of memory.
