These geographers have been generators of geographic knowledge while simultaneously contributing to the development of a new geography for Latin America. While not all are represented, this work will begin with those who were more visible, some of whom had to go into exile while others resisted in their countries of origin. This research is based on secondary sources such as articles, book chapters, as well as interviews and electronic communication with some of them. One limitation is that there are no studies that focus on their role in the development of geography, although Elena Chiozza and Graciela Uribe are the exception. Brazilian geographers are not included in this work since it exceeds the objective of this first approach. The contribution of this work is to make visible the women geographers who contributed to the formation of a critical geography from Latin America, despite the challenging conditions they experienced.
