Sumario:This work by García Insausti, a doctor in History from the Universidad Nacional del Sur (Bahía Blanca, Buenos Aires, Argentina), introduces us, over nine chapters, to a topic that addresses part of the worldview of the ancient indigenous societies of the Araucanía, Pampas, and Northern Patagonia regions and which has been little studied until now. The author focuses his research on beliefs about magical aggression, or kalkatun, that existed among these populations. Drawing on a diverse set of sources recorded between the 16th and 19th centuries, he provides an in-depth analysis of both the beliefs and the social dynamics related to this magical practice.
