Sumario:This study systematizes an institutional experience carried out at the Autonomous University of Chiriquí (Panama) between 2022 and 2025, aimed at strengthening editorial management through the diamond open access model. A program was implemented that integrated editorial training, technical support, and regulatory development, with the goal of increasing academic visibility and democratizing scientific knowledge. A qualitative-descriptive approach was adopted, based on five stages: institutional analysis, reconstruction of activities, evidence collection, critical interpretation, and synthesis of lessons learned. The results show that, of the six (6) journals that began the program, one was indexed in the Latindex 2.0 Catalog and Dialnet. In addition, a regulation for editorial committees and a policy for open access journals were approved, consolidating regulatory progress. The discussion highlights that strengthening editorial processes in resource-limited contexts requires institutional leadership, team professionalization, and sustained support, despite obstacles such as reliance on volunteer work and limited technical infrastructure. It is concluded that diamond open access represents a relevant path for Global South universities committed to science as a common good. This experience helps identify key elements that could guide future editorial strategies in institutions with similar structural conditions.
