Sumario:The objective of this article is to analyze the description processes of exhibition catalogs in museums through metadata, evaluating their effectiveness in information retrieval and interoperability across digital platforms. The research adopts a qualitative methodology, structured in two stages: literature review and comparative analysis. Existing studies on data management in museums are reviewed, focusing on metadata standards, interoperability, and digital preservation. Through the analysis of four international museums, the British Museum, the Museo del Prado, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Rijksmuseum, their catalog search and retrieval systems are examined. The results indicate that while some museums provide direct access to digitized catalogs, others face limitations in their search platforms, hindering complete catalog retrieval. The conclusions suggest a need for improved standardization in catalog description and increased metadata interoperability, promoting the reuse of cultural data.
