Sumario:This article analyzes the theoretical background and guidelines behind the concepts of “household sector”, “household economy”, “peasant economy” or, in general, “peasantry”, all of which remain at the core of Economic Anthropology. We approach these theoretical conceptualizations in the light of domestic units’ dynamics among the so-called “dwellers” [pobladores] of the Nahuel Huapi National Park, in the Andean region of northern Patagonia, in the Argentinian provinces of Neuquén (Los Lagos Department) and Río Negro (Bariloche Department). Through relating the analysis of these processes to different theoretical backgrounds, we articulate our own proposal for addressing the household sector. This includes the ethnographic perspective, which characterizes Anthropology, while accounting for structural as well as specific variables that affect these particular groups.
