It is meant to contribute to the debate about the future of the conditions of insertion in the work market, the organization of health services and the regulation mechanisms producing new articulations between Social Sciences and health. With an emphasis on power relations, we analyze the positions and demands of odontologic gremialism with respect to the new State proposals on health, the relations with subordinated occupations and the building of a new professional profile including the role of the University En este artículo se aborda el proceso de consolidación profesional de la odontología en Argentina durante el período 1940-1950, bajo un enfoque histórico sustentado en la sociología de las profesiones. Se trata de aportar a la polémica sobre el futuro de las condiciones de inserción en el mercado de trabajo, a la delimitación de campos de incumbencias, a la organización de servicios de salud y a mecanismos de regulación, produciendo nuevas articulaciones entre ciencias sociales y salud. Haciendo énfasis en las relaciones de poder, se analizan los posicionamientos y demandas del gremialismo odontológico frente a las nuevas propuestas estatales en el sector salud, las relaciones con ocupaciones subordinadas y la construcción de un nuevo perfil profesional incluyendo el papel de la Universidad.
