Sumario:This paper analyzes the mechanisms of rescue of Indian and Hispanic creole captives in Buenos Aires frontier during the first half of the nineteenth century. The redemption of captives was an important point in interethnic diplomatic negotiations. Besides these formal transactions, there was an informal circuit by which the relatives of the captives could negotiate, even in the tents, the redemption of their relatives. The characteristics of the rescues changed in line with the Indian policy from the late colonial period to Rosas’ government.
