Sumario:Juan Bernal Díaz de Luco (1495-1556) was one of the most well known promoters of the ecclesiastical and religious reform in Spain under Charles V. This article tries to clarify a number of points of the propositions of reform elaborated by Díaz de Luco. First, the text will consider the critical situation of the Church at that time, and its relation with the need to reform. Secondly, it will specify the content of the reform, and the need to overcame the critic of the abuses of the clergy as its main topic. Thus, we will address Díaz de Luco’s perception of the difficulties of his time, as well as the extent and limitations of acting according to ancient ecclesiastical models.
