Since the origins of Argentine television to the ?80s, with the return of democracy, there was little presence of homosexual characters, they were portrayed as stereotypes (for humorous and satirical purposes, or bizarrely) or with dark, clandestine and dangerous representations (Jáuregui, 1987). This paper studies these fictional depictions as subject matter from the theory of discourse analysis (Verón, 1998) with tools from audiovisual design (Casetti & di Chio, 1999). It analyses how culture and hegemonic discourses (Williams, 2000) may have influenced the creation of these stereotypes (Amossy & Herschberg Pierrot, 2001). Finally, following the social struggles of the LGBT community identity (Arfuch, 2005), (Sabsay, 2005), (Pecheny, 2005), (Meccia, 2011), and with the legalization of same-sex marriage, these characters become more prominent in audiovisual media. Desde los orígenes de la televisión en la Argentina hasta la década de 1980 con el retorno a la democracia, hubo poca aparición de personajes homosexuales, se hacía de manera estereotipada -con fines humorísticos, satíricos y bizarros- o a través de representaciones oscuras, clandestinas y peligrosas (Jáuregui, 1987). Este trabajo analiza estas representaciones ficcionales como materia significante de sentido desde la teoría de análisis del discurso (Verón, 1998) y con herramientas de análisis del diseño audiovisual (Casetti & di Chio, 1999). Se investiga cómo la cultura y los discursos hegemónicos (Williams, 2000) pudieron influenciar la creación de estos estereotipos (Amossy & Herschberg Pierrot, 2001).
