Sumario:On 7 December 2014 the Chicago Convention marked its 70th anniversary. The purpose of this presentation is to recommend to the academic community to initiate studies whether the Convention after 70 years and in vastly changed technical, economic and geopolitical conditions is fully responsive to the needs of the international community. Similarly, the time has come to re-examine the constitutional structure and the working methods of ICAO. Such studies should start at the academic level in close cooperation with the policy-making bodies and involve wide international exchange of ideas; in a few years such studies may reach a level of maturity and could be presented to States for their consideration and possible action. If no action is taken to modernize the venerated "Chicago" system, the Convention may well pass into irrelevance and interested States would try to find alternative solutions outside the "Chicago" system.
