Sumario:The aim of this paper is to analyze the water security (WS) orientation, arguing that it is a theoretical deployment of the precautionary approach (PA). Secondarily, this study evaluates risk, uncertainty, damage and proportionality as the previous bases that guarantee the relation between WS and PA. As a result, a conceptual map for the SH is suggested, integrating its variables, and a critical thinking about the current context of the international water law is established. This work also emphasizes the complexity perspective as away to understand the knowledge of water as an interconnected system of subsystems, empowering multiples methodological possibilities.
