Sumario:This work examines Attic legal aspects concerning marriage and succession - such as the engye, dowry, heirs and adoption- in Euripides' plays. These subjects constitute a useful test for the establishment of links and correspondences between the tragic fiction and the real and contemporary life. In his tragedies these institutions are often displayed in accordance with the Athenian laws, although the poet rarely uses a technical legal terminology. Also, the analysis of the texts allows us to conclude that Euripides shows a critical attitude toward some legal practices.
