| Sumario: | The General Law on Protection of Refugees Nº 26.165, passed in November 2006, crystallized good practices in the asylum procedures which were being developed in Argentina, and provided a new institutional legal framework for the promotion and adoption of public policies. Since the adoption of the aforementioned Act, the Argentine asylum system has been considered one of the most solid in the region, even though it is counter to some current global trends that focus on the restriction and control of migratory flows. This article aims to summarize the progress that has taken place since the adoption of the Law, such as the opportunity to build an inter-institutional system of assistance and support for efficient local integration of refugees; and help to open a dialogue on issues of international protection of refugees and stateless persons at the regional level. At the same time, it seeks to account for the challenges faced by CONARE, among which could be mentioned the increase in the number of migrants and refugees, both intra- and extra-continental, who entered the country in search of protection, the greater diversification of displacement, the increasing of applications considered as "manifestly unfounded or abusive"; issues related to trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants, and cases of protection of unaccompanied or separated children and adolescents asylum seekers. |
