Sumario:Due process of law is essential in order to ensure protection of all human rights, including the right to seek and obtain asylum. The situation of vulnerability of asylum seekers and the specificities of the refugee status determination procedure underline the need of fair and efficient asylum procedures. In the case of "Familia Pacheco Tineo v. Bolivia", the Inter-American Court of Human Rights determined the scope of the due process guarantees applicable during refugee status determination procedures, thus contributing to the development of an issue which was not expressly regulated by States at the time of adoption of the 1951 Convention and the 1967 Protocol on the Status of Refugees.
