| Sumario: | The aim of this study was to evaluate different methods of detecting IgG both mares colostrum and serum of their pups, to analyse benefits and drawbacks of each against each other and determine which of them is best suited for use in season delivery. Thirteen colostrum and serum samples were taken to realize the following tests: Subjective evaluation of colostrum in appearance, evaluation of the specific density by colostrometer, sugar concentration and total protein by refractometry and determination of the concentration of IgG with glutaraldehyde. The data obtained was observed that two foals had low concentrations of IgG, probably because none colostrum either because of loss of colostrum by the mother before delivery. We determined that the precipitation test with glutaraldehyde is the most convenient to include, to be precise, quick and easy to perform, especially in places with many animals, avoiding expenses laboratory gamma globulins. This makes them cheaper. The remaining tests would not be advisable obsolete but not perform them as individual testing to determine quality of colostrum or a good transfer of immunity, you can make as complementary tests. |
