Sumario:This paper presents some notes on the particular litigations that have arisen in different European countries and which, over almost five decades already, have been settled by The European Court of Human Rights. The work consists of three parts: first, some general principles of the European human rights system are identified, taking into account in particular the differences with the inter-American system. Secondly, I shall refer to the normative formulation of the rights relating to education in the First Protocol to the European Convention on Human Rights and, in a very summary way, to the types of matters which throughout history have been decided by the Strasbourg Court. In a third part, I will work on three specific problems that I have considered of special interest: sex education, teaching of religion and other values and the question of religious symbols.
