| Sumario: | Notably, one of the most visible effects and with most profound consequences deriving from the economic turmoil of last years has been the significant retraction of available credit and a dramatic cutting of financing sources. Along with the narrowing of private credit channels, the drop in public investment has made cultural and artistic projects, scientific research projects and, in general, small and medium sized business initiatives, among others, particularly vulnerable in financing terms. Such a negative economic context has accelerated the emergence and the development of alternative financing methods aimed to overcome the gap of credit. Among them, crowdfunding has gained a broad social relevance for, albeit not being new, by effect of technology, it is being called to perform a genuine role in modern society. Indeed, crowdfunding is, above all, an expression of social movements promoting community involvement and collective action. The term crowdfunding has proliferated in many languages gathering a diversity of phenomena that share three main characteristics. Firstly, all of them work as community-based schemes enabling the sharing and the gathering of efforts, resources and ideas. Secondly, the ultimate aim, but not the only one, is fundraising to finance projects under different economic and legal models. Thirdly, the use of network-based technology that enables the building of a structure for the electronic interaction. Therefore, crowdfunding describes a wide and varied phenomenon that entails the building of an electronic environment to gather people, contribute ideas, resources and funds and interact with the aim of jointly supporting projects, efforts and initiatives of individuals, organizations and businesses. |
