Sumario:This paper provides a critical overview of an extended understanding of the recent lynching episodes that took place in Argentina, which characterizes this phenomenon as people?s reaction to the failure of state efforts to fight crime and deficiencies in the functioning of the criminal justice system. In particular, it intends to reflect some of the ambiguities, misconceptions and risks that are associated with this notion, as well as to provide an outline for an alternative understanding of the problem.
