Sumario:By taking into account both International Law and International Relationships, this article proposes to think about certain aspects about self-determination rights, i.e., about the relationship, content and reach of all various forms in which any demand regarding acknowledgement or recognition made by a group of people in the international community can be manifested. The main argumentative line of the article will consider possible political and legal legislations regarding independent, sovereign states. To do so, the cases of recognition conflicts analyzed in the article, are the ones that took place in Scotland, Catalonia and the Basque Country, attempting not to be led by concepts and realities that were thought, formulated and practiced in past social, political and legal contexts, but to pay more attention to new or contemporary realities, seeking the peaceful, democratic and cooperative resolution of these conflicts.
