Sumario:The objective of this thesis was to study the occurrence of infection of Papilloma Virus\n(PVs) in nonhuman primates (Platirrinos) of the Argentine northeast and to propose the possible\nscenarios involved in the evolution and dispersion of these viruses in the primate lineage.\nResults:\nTwo new PVs of the Genus-Gamma were identified in the species A. caraya and S. nigritus\n(denominated AcPV1 and SnPV1 respectively). The origin and emergence of these PVs was\nestimated 32,395,860 years ago and offers a feasible time frame for adaptive radiation in the\nPlatyrrhinis. However, the hypothesis of coespeciation was questioned, mainly due to the lack of\ncongruence between the topologies of the virus / host trees. In particular, the analysis of\nphylogenetic reconciliation indicated that duplication events and duplication with host change\nwere the most frequent events (46.5% and 34.8% respectively) while the processes of\ncoespeciation and loss or extinction of the virus in a lineage were less frequent (around 10%\neach).\nThis study represents the first report of infection by PVs in Platyrrhini of Argentina, it\nexpands the range of described hosts for these viruses and proposes new scenarios to evaluate\nthe origin and viral emergence.
