Sumario:The following paper analyses La Nación and Clarín's mass media coverage of Micaela García's femicide and how that journalistic approach could contribute to the consolidation of a criminal stereotype. This case worked as a catalyst of the criminal enforcement law's amendment in the National Senate Chamber and, according to this, we studied which similarities could be detected between the media and the legislative discourse. The latter proposed a severe restriction on the rights of the people deprived of their liberty as a solution for the gender-based violence issue. Finally, we also focused on the new "preparatory regime for liberation" that was introduced by law No. 27,375, as well as the similarities and differences with the temporary release and parole figures
