Sumario:Taking into consideration the situation of vulnerability in which the native peoples within the territory of Argentina are immersed, the aim of this text is to demonstrate how the principle of equality clashes and eventually becomes blind-sighted to the internal dynamics of the native communities that are inherently guided by patriarchal values. Therefore from a gender-conscious perspective, tension between multiculturalism and feminism arises. In the first case, multiculturalism does not take into account the individual rights of indigenous women, whereas in the case of feminism, the claims of white women are universalized, neutralizing under a single category the different claims that indigenous women coming from different cultural backgrounds may have. As an answer to this lack of representation within these social movements, different groups of native women have constituted an independent movement that fights for emancipation and participation in the public agenda.
