Sumario:The author reflects on the prosecution institutions role in a democracy, and its designs. He conducts a brief review of the constitutional and legal regulations of the prosecution service in Argentina. He looks critically upon the processes of appointing and removing prosecutors and the practice of life tenure. The author problematizes the fact that prosecutors are not elected by citizens through a direct vote, and meditates about the potential benefits of democratic debate in penal prosecution policy contents, and its virtues on enhancing accountability and control mechanisms. After that, the author responds to the main criticisms of the direct election of prosecutors.
