The greater the threat, the more negative the attitudes toward the exogroup. Allport argued that contact under certain conditions can be effective in reducing prejudice. Thus, someone who is interculturally sensitive is aware of the different aspects of intercultural communication, appreciates and respects the ideas exchanged, accepting human complexity. The study seeks to explain Intercultural Sensitivity through intercultural contact, threat and prejudice towards immigrants. A total of 222 randomly selected Chilean university students participated. The results show that the frequency of contact in the group of friends is the only domain that is related to intercultural sensitivity. Both threat and prejudice work to the detriment of intercultural sensitivity in a situation of competition for scarce resources. No 2; e6 {PSOCIAL}; Vol 10, No 2; e6 2422-619X Host Society, Intercultural Sensitivity, perceived threat, prejudice, Latin American Immigrants Psicología Social; Psicología; Estudios Culturales Sociedad Receptora, Sensibilidad Intercultural, amenaza percibida, prejuicio, inmigrantes latinoamericanos Intercultural Sensitivity of the host society: the role of contact, threat, and prejudice in a sample of Chilean university students.
