Sumario:This paper analysesthe play Capital por Capital (1872), by Luis V. Varela, a work that has not been deeply studied so far (just like it happens with the rest of Varela’s dramatic works), even when his narrative production has received much attention in recent times. Founder of the detective novel in Argentina -and in Spanish-, Varela tested himself first in the theater with this play, before starting to work on that line of narrative composition. On that basis, I study this play within the context of production and reception and in connection to Varela’s literary and legal works.
