The verbe ảκούω in Herodotus and Thucydides: auditive perception vs. cognitive apprehension

The present article explores the meanings of the verb ἀκούω in Herodotus and Thucydides. The semantic study of various syntactic constructions of the verb uncovers its fundamental and metaphorical values, its semantic domains and the specificities by which these are constituted.
