Sumario:By the act of dwelling, human beings create their landscapes as a long lasting record (Ingold 1993). We have registered differences and continuities in the conception and construction of landscape in the mid Calchaquí valley during Desarrollos Regionales (1000-1450) and Inca periods (1450-1532). Both productive and demographic focus were located mainly in the western quebradas tributary to the main valley. This narrow and fertile valleys form natural passes to puna environment, and are one of the key elements in landscape structure during both periods.
