| Sumario: | The Conciliator by Peter of Abano (1250-c. 1316) constituted a codification of the scholastic controversy between philosophers and physicians that had developed in the West during the second half of the 13th century. This paper (a) compares the solutions provided by the Conciliator to questions with parallels in Peter of Spain’s commentary on De animalibus and Albert the Great’s Questiones super de animalibus, (b) discusses Peter of Abano’s solutions to the key issues of the controversy, and (c) considers his approach to the problem of the relationships between medicine and philosophy. |
