Sumario:This contribution analyses the role played by the symbols of status, in particular the function of the imperial outfit, in the election ceremony through the use of archaeological, anthropological and historical evidence. The ritual of election will be considered and a number of questions related to the problems of representation during these ceremonies will be addressed. Hence, the paper will examine the communication strategies that shaped the protocols during the elections.
