Sumario:This paper focuses on some topics considered in the discussion on Sergio Serulnikov´s book, Subverting colonial authority, published in Boletín del Instituto de Historia Argentina y Americana “Dr Emilio Ravignani”, Nº31. The author discusses topics such as the importance of grouping categories and the pertinence of longue durée studies on the basis of a scarcely approached aspect: categories presented on indigenous population surveys (padrones de indios). Adrián, whose inquires focuses also on northern Potosí along the XVIIIe Century -especially on indigenous doctrines jurisdiction- argues on the possibilities offered by this kind of documents on the basis of her analysis about the transformations suffered by the categories used on these surveys from XVIe to XVIII Centuries.
