Sumario:This article aims to improve the understanding and evaluation of social impact of higher education institutions by the analysis of a specific case, that of the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. We obtained qualitative data through interviews about the institution’s self-perception of its social performance, and, comparatively with 20 other institutions, quantitative data from the web (social mission and size of the institutional repository) and some social media (Twitter, ResearchGate, YouTube). Results corroborate the importance of quantitative comparable data in order to measure the social impact of higher education institutions.
